Xiu Xiu – Forget
Xiu Xiu’s 2014 album ‘Angel Guts: Red Classroom’ was scary and borderline offensive. ‘Forget’ scores lower on those qualities. It starts with the random and sudden ‘The Call’ and ends rather meticulously with Vaginal Davis’ thought-provoking poetry on ‘Faith Torn Apart’. The tried-and-tested tricks of deploying jarring sounds and shrieked choruses could be a letdown for long-time fans. But this may be their most accessible album to date. One could almost sing along to ‘Wondering’.
